Let me start by saying that I am obviously not a dermatologist. But I am someone who has dealt with acne, and I have found this regimen to work. Going through menopause I experienced breakouts so I really did try everything. I have also suggested this routine to a number of women dealing with problem skin and they have all found it to work.
What I find most with anyone dealing with skin issues is that they tend to over-do everything. So stop it! Don't wash your face seven times a day with a really aggressive cleanser. Don't use products that can dry out your skin and cause redness. Stay away from the hot water.
This regimen includes products that will CALM the skin. As soon as you see a little red bump don't go haywire until your face is so irritated and aggravated making the problem worse. Just relax, step away from the mirror, and stop touching your face! Try this very easy process and watch the results. Some items I have already talked about in an earlier blog post. Other products I've used for quite a few years, and I have recommended them to all different age groups. So keep reading and stop stressing out!!
I suggested this face wash in my earlier blog post, and I'm sticking with it for anyone having issues with their skin. It is dermatologist recommended (that's when I was first introduced to it) and there's a reason for that. It is non-irritating, fragrance free, and won't clog your pores. It's formulated for normal, oily, and combination skin. Since it is gentle it won't strip your skin of natural oils, which leaves your face feeling tight or too dry. This is one of the big no-no's when dealing with problem skin. Cetaphil will remove dirt, surface oil, and leave your skin feeling soft!
Again, I mentioned this product before and I swear by it for a reason! It is such a soothing toner and all of the ingredients are made to calm the skin. There is no alcohol in this toner, which tends to dry out the skin. Some of the ingredients are Witch Hazel to deal with irritation, Aloe Vera and Rose Petal Water to soothe, and Vitamin E to help restore moisture to the skin. This toner is very affordable and includes so many natural and amazing ingredients into one product.
This is one of my all time favorites! I use all different types of Retinol, from prescription Retinol, to over the counter products that include Retinol. But this one works wonders! I think Retinol should be included in everyone's skin care routine. Some people might not even know what Retinol is, but others who do know about it are sometimes nervous to use the product. When it was first introduced years ago it was prescription strength and many people had a harsh reaction to it. Today Retinol is actually an ingredient that is in so many products and that’s because it works!
Retinol works to enhance collagen, smooth skin, deal with pigmentation areas, and treat acne and acne scars. With this particular form of Retinol you won't be drying out your skin. It's made for daily use without flaking and peeling. This product does it all! Everything from anti-aging to reversing sun damage. It also has organic ingredients that moisturize and hydrate skin. This brand is only sold on Amazon, and it quickly became one of their best selling products. Even if you are not dealing with acne or skin irritation try this product I think you will love it.
Oh, and what is the price for this magic cream? A whopping $19.99! Start by using it a few nights a week, and then after a little while you can begin to increase up to 5x's per week. I have extremely sensitive skin, and can use this product every night.
*The products below are for specific treatment for acne problems. I do not use any of these every night but only when I see my skin flare up or deal with breakouts.
Ok, now we're getting into products that deal directly with breakouts. When starting anything new you should always GO SLOWLY!
To start, I suggest using this product only in the evening. In your first two weeks apply 1 to 2 x's per week at night after your toner. Please don't rub the pads aggressively all over your face. Be GENTLE with your skin, it’s already going through enough! If you see improvement and you don’t have a reaction, such as redness & irritation, you can increase usage to 2 or 3x's per week, skipping days in between. Remember slow is the way to go.
This product is made with 2% Salicylic Acid which provides the acne treatment. It is also made with a cooling agent to help soothe skin irritation. It will remove dirt and oil from your pores along with dead skin cells. So, these pads are exfoliating your skin, and then adding the salicylic acid to treat & prevent breakouts, all while keeping your skin hydrated.
This little .33 Fl. Oz. bottle is a miracle product! When I see signs of a breakout I apply a little bit of this serum and Voila!! Anything I had is gone in the morning!! I swear by this product!Since it’s only used as a spot treatment it will last you quite a long time. Thank goodness, because it is pricey at $80 a pop, but it is the only spot treatment that works this well.
I was introduced to it after a facial, about 6 years ago, when I was dealing with acne brought on by menopause. It worked so well that I've recommended it to anyone and everyone. It has Retinol along with alpha-lipoid acid which is very helpful in the treatment of acne, and also helps restore Vitamins E and C in your skin. I know this is pricey, but it really is such a great product a little goes a long way.
This is a naturally soothing product for sensitive skin. It has been clinically shown to calm, soothe, and soften the skin. It is perfect for treating red, sensitive, or irritated skin. Avenue is a French brand that has been around since 1743.
I spray it directly onto my face. Then I put a tissue over my entire face and spray the tissue. Basically making a treatment mask. I leave it on for 15/20 minutes, peel the tissue off, and the redness is gone! Many people use this after laser treatments, and it’s great if you've gotten too much sun on your face. It's very affordable and comes in many different sizes. I buy mine from Amazon. A 10 oz. can is only $18.50, and you can't beat that!
